Brookfield Man Finds $6,000 Top Prize in Scratchers Game

Story Photo audio icon A 55-year-old Brookfield man uncovered a $6,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery "Triple Cash" Scratchers game. James "Tom" Wheeler said he bought $10 worth of tickets on June 8, and one of the tickets was worth $6,000.
Wheeler said when he bought his Scratchers tickets from a vending machine at Save-A-Lot Liquor, 542 S. Maine in Brookfield, the tickets jammed and the "Triple Cash" ticket came out "crumpled up."
"I almost said, ’I don’t want it,’" said Wheeler.
Wheeler and his wife, Martha, plan to use the prize money to help fix up a house they bought.
"We’ve been doing a little dab to it all along, but it’s going to get fixed now," he said.
"Triple Cash," a $1 Scratchers game, went on sale on May 27.
