O'Fallon Man Wins $50,000 Tax-Paid After Kiss For Luck
An O’Fallon man claimed a $50,000 tax-paid* prize from the April 29 Missouri Lottery SHOW ME 5 Paydown drawing. Christopher "Chris" Colombo, 48, said he and his wife, Cheryl, plan to save and invest the prize money as a nest egg for their upcoming retirement.
Colombo, an assistant parts manager for Johnny Landoff Chevrolet in Florissant, said he was working in his garage on April 29, when he remembered that he hadn’t made his usual Saturday night Lottery purchase.
"My wife was going to sprinkle me with a little luck before I left, but I told her to just give me a kiss," he said.
The kiss for luck paid off when all five of the numbers he received on the Quick Pick ticket he bought at the Smoke Shack, 2697 Highway K in O’Fallon, were drawn. The five winning numbers were: 1, 2, 15, 24 and 27.
Colombo discovered his win on April 30, when he went to get food for Sunday night’s dinner.
"I always make her and the kids’ dinner on Sunday," he explained.
To date, 105 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since it began Nov. 6, 2000.
* The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
