Springfield Man Uncovers $50,000 Prize In Thayer

A railroad employee on his way home from a job in Jonesboro, Ark., purchased two "Crossword" Scratchers tickets at Flash Market in Thayer on April 20 and ended up winning a $50,000 top prize. Steven "Steve" Keller, 34, said he and his wife, Terry, will probably use some of the prize money for their upcoming trip to Las Vegas.
"Actually, we were planning to go to Vegas," he said. "Now we might stay longer."
Keller, who works for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, said he also plans to pay off several bills with his prize money.
"I felt like it was too good to be true," he said, when he claimed his prize on April 21.
"Crossword," a $3 ticket, officially started on Jan. 28.
