Garden City Electrician Wins $100,000 Top Prize

audio icon A self-employed electrician from Garden City lit up when he discovered that the only Missouri Lottery "$100,000 Texas Hold ’Em" Scratchers ticket he’d bought on April 14 was worth $100,000. Christopher "Chris" Scholten, 38, said he bought the ticket when he was on his way to a job and stopped at QuikTrip, 6641 Truman Road in Kansas City, for a snack and a drink.
Scholten, who is married and has three young children, said he plans to save some of the prize money for his children’s college and also invest some.
"I just started my own company a month ago, so we’re cash poor right now," said Scholten. "So this is definitely going to help out; help us get over that cash flow hump with the new business."
"$100,000 Texas Hold ’Em," a $5 Scratchers game, officially started Jan. 28.
