St. Louis Woman Buys One Ticket, Wins $77,000 Top Prize

Story Photo audio icon An employee for a St. Louis car dealership bought one Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket on March 13 and ended up winning the game’s top prize of $77,000. Joanne Delaney (63128*), 40, said she went to QuikTrip, 13099 Tesson Ferry Road in St. Louis, to buy chips and soda to go with that night’s dinner. Along with those items, she bought just one ticket from the "Silver 7’s" Scratchers game and uncovered the $77,000 prize while sitting in her car in the parking lot.
Delaney, who works in the billing department at Sunset Ford in St. Louis, said she and her husband, Ed, plan to pay off a car loan and some other bills with the prize money.
"I’m going to Disney World," she said. "We’ve been planning to do that since my daughter was 5; we’ve been promising her."
Delaney said her daughter is now 15 years old.
The Delaneys plan to use whatever prize money is left to put in an individual retirement account.
"Silver 7’s," a $5 game, officially started Feb. 25.
