Florissant Woman Wins $50,000 Powerball Prize

Story Photo A Florissant woman’s fortune came true when she used numbers from a fortune cookie to win $50,000. Coldova Lloyd-Williams, 65, won five times the usual $10,000 prize when she used Power Play and matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number on March 1.
Lloyd-Williams said she found her lucky numbers in a fortune cookie about a year ago, and she has been playing them ever since.
"I was about ready to find some new numbers," Lloyd-Williams said when she claimed her prize on March 2. "I hadn’t won anything with them before, but I’m glad I was still using them."
Lloyd-Williams, a retired nurse, said she checked the winning numbers on the Lottery’s Web site, www.molottery.com, and although she recognized the numbers, she didn’t believe what she saw.
"I still don’t believe it," she said.
Lloyd-Williams, said she and her husband, Malcolm, plan to use her winnings to possibly take a cruise "some place warm" and do some home renovations.
Lloyd-Williams purchased her winning ticket at Schnucks Market 198, 13987 New Halls Ferry Road in Florissant. For an extra $1 per play, Powerball’s Power Play feature offers the chance to multiply prizes, excluding the jackpot, up to five times the normal payout. After each Wednesday or Saturday Powerball drawing, a wheel is spun to select a number from two to five to determine how much prize, excluding the jackpot, will be multiplied for players who select the Power Play option.
Through March 29, the Missouri Lottery’s Powerball Power Play 10X promotion gives players a chance to multiply their winnings up to 10 times.
