Tennessee Man Wins $77,000 Top Prize in Hometown

Story Photo audio icon Going back to his hometown paid off for a Tennessee man who bought some Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets and won $77,000. Glen Payne, 54, of Clarksville, Tenn., said he and his wife go back to their hometown of Kelso a couple of times a year, and when he does, he buys some Lottery tickets. When he recently visited Kelso on Feb. 26, he bought $20 worth of tickets and ended up winning a top prize of $77,000 in the "Silver 7’s" Scratcher game.
"I thought I was seeing things," Payne recalled when he first discovered his win.
Payne said he and his wife, Connie, will probably use most of the prize money to put on the mortgage on their new home.
"Instead of 30 years, maybe (we’ll) try to get it (house payment) down to about 10 years," said Payne, who is a retail manager at the Army/Airforce Exchange in Fort Campbell, Ky.
Payne purchased his winning ticket at Kelso Kwik Shop, 138 N. Highway 61 in Kelso.
"Silver 7’s," a $5 game, officially started Feb. 25.
