Independence Man Wins $10,000 Powerball Prize in Record Drawing
An Independence man recently won $10,000 in the record Powerball drawing on Feb. 18. Kevin Fretrop said he bought his winning ticket when he stopped at QuikTrip, 11201 E. Truman Road in Independence, for gasoline. He let the computer pick his winning numbers.
"It was pretty cool," Fretrop said of winning. "I couldn’t sleep."
Fretrop said he plans to buy a utility trailer and some furniture with his prize money. He may also put some money in a Roth IRA.
Fretrop runs a printing press in Lenexa, Kan.
The second-level prize increased from $100,000 to $200,000 and the third-level prize increased from $5,000 to $10,000 when Powerball underwent a game redesign that took effect on Aug. 28, 2005. The game changes were made to create larger and faster growing jackpots.
