O'Fallon Retiree Wins $50,000 Tax-Paid Fortune With Fortune Numbers
A retired General Mills plant manager won a $50,000 tax-paid prize on Jan. 22 when his SHOW ME 5 Paydown numbers matched all five drawn. Carmen Mazzei, 67, said he used numbers he found on a fortune cookie message in his late wife’s jewelry box. Those numbers are: 3, 10, 17, 23 and 26.
"Those were all the numbers she (wife) used to play in roulette," he said.
Mazzei bought his winning ticket at Fastlane Winghaven, 7430 Highway N in O’Fallon.
"I usually don’t go there; it was a fluke," he said.
Mazzei said he plans to share his prize winnings with his grown daughter. He also plans to pay some bills.
To date, 98 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. A total of 814 players won a $25,000 tax-paid prize in the previous SHOW ME 5 game, which ran from Nov. 6, 1994, to Nov. 5, 2000.
* The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
