"$100 Million Cash Spectacular" Makes Second Millionaire

A Florissant couple are planning to take a vacation and put their money in the bank after they uncovered the second top prize in the Missouri Lottery’s "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" Scratchers game on Jan. 20. Alfred Meyer, 71, and his wife, Charlene, said they still can’t believe they won $1 million.
"He (Alfred) came home and said, ’We need to go to the safe deposit box,’" Charlene Meyer said. "I kept saying, ’This can’t be true.’"
Charlene Meyer said her husband purchased his winning ticket at Cut Rate Liquor Sales, 2162 N. Waterford, in Florissant. Alfred Meyer, who is a retired cement finisher, also won $1,000 in1993 and $10,000 in January 1995 playing the Lottery.
The Meyers have two sons and two grandchildren.
"We’re just ordinary people, so I don’t think we’re going to change," Charlene Meyer said.
The new "$100 Million Cash Spectacular" game, which officially started on Sept. 10, has the highest payout in the Lottery’s 20-year history and offers more than $102.5 million in cash prizes, including 10 top prizes of $1 million. More than 75.14 percent of the $10 game’s sales will be returned to players as prizes.
Steve Shepard, 47, of Mineral Point, claimed the game’s first top prize on Sept. 29. Eight additional $1 million prizes remain in the game.
To date, 207 Missouri Lottery tickets worth $1 million or more have been sold in the Lottery’s 20 years of sales. Of those winning tickets, eight were from Scratchers games.
