Columbia Teacher Wins $50,000 Prize

Story Photo A teacher from Columbia claimed a $50,000 tax-paid* prize from the first SHOW ME 5 Paydown drawing of the new year. Sherry Dobbs, 55, said she will probably invest her prize money, and she may take a trip. Dobbs purchased her winning ticket for the Jan. 1 midday drawing at Gerbes, 1729 W. Broadway in Columbia. She picked the winning numbers ? 6, 11, 17, 26 and 38 ? at random. To date, 96 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. A total of 814 players won a $25,000 tax-paid prize in the previous SHOW ME 5 game, which ran from Nov. 6, 1994, to Nov. 5, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
