Lebanon Grandma Wins $10,000 Instantly

Story Photo A grandma from Lebanon who stopped by the grocery store for milk and a few other items ended up winning $10,000 by playing the Missouri Lottery’s "Sizzlin’ 7’s" Scratchers game. Brenda Jones, 49, said she, her husband, Ray, and her six-year-old grandson, Dustin, stopped at Ramey Super Market, 550 N. Jefferson in Lebanon on Jan. 11. Jones bought $15 worth of Lottery tickets and scratched them off while they shopped. "I made quite a spectacle," Jones recalled of her excitement in the store. "My grandson kept telling everyone, ’My grandma just won $10,000!’" Jones said she plans to use her prize money to pay off her car loan and pay other bills. "He (Dustin) thinks he needs a train now," she said. "He’s crazy about trains, so we will probably buy him an electric one." Jones, who works for the state Dept. of Natural Resources at Bennett Spring State Park, said she and her husband may also use some of their prize winnings to take a short trip to Branson. "Sizzlin’ 7s," a $5 game, officially started on Oct. 8.
