Kansas City Woman Celebrates Christmas Early With $10,000 Win

Story Photo A Kansas City (64118) woman said she and her family were planning to have a "pretty skimpy Christmas" until she won $10,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s "Merry Money" Scratchers game on Dec. 15. Terri Cole, 47, said she had to use some of her Christmas money to help pay for her son’s flight home from Germany for the holidays. Cole’s son is in the Army and is stationed in Germany. "We just decided that having him home was more important than a lot of gifts," Cole said. "Now I have enough for Christmas and to pay a few bills." Cole purchased her winning ticket at Sunfresh, 2415 E. Vivion Road, in Kansas City. She said she purchased $20 worth of Scratchers tickets. On the first ticket she scratched, a "Season’s Greetings" ticket, she won $30. She said she was thrilled with being $10 ahead. The second ticket she scratched, a "Merry Money" ticket, she won $25. The third ticket she scratched was worth $10,000. In addition to buying more Christmas presents and paying a few bills, Cole said she and her husband, Mark, plan to use some of their winnings to take their two youngest sons to Walt Disney World this spring "Merry Money," a $5 game, officially went on sale Oct. 29.
