"The Poor Boys" Recognized as Lottery Team of the Month

Congratulations to "The Poor Boys" of Monette, Ark. Their group was recognized as the Lottery Team of the Month for December as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2005 Lottery Captain’s promotion. The promotion awards a Lottery players’ group with prizes and a feature at Molottery.com each month during the calendar year.
"The Poor Boys" is a group of eight co-workers who all work at Colson Plastics. The members are: Michael Nettles (team captain), Phillip Cater, Aaron Uthoff and David Clark, all of Monette, Ark.; Gary "Skeeter" Pace, Black Oak, Ark.; Marvin Husky, Manila, Ark.; Robert Roberson, Caraway, Ark.; and Bill Clark, Truman, Ark.
Nettles said the group has been buying Powerball tickets together for 10 years. They got started by pitching in for a big jackpot and have continued to play since then. He said team members chip in $5 every Monday. Nettles said he buys the Multi-Draw tickets so they can play each Wednesday and Saturday.
Nettles buys the group’s tickets at Flash Market, 240 State Highway F in Cardwell. They usually let the computer Quick Pick their lucky numbers, but sometimes members choose to play their own numbers.
"The Poor Boys" save up their winnings and use them to buy Scratchers tickets about twice a year. Nettles said they like to buy the Scratchers to "change it up a little." The group once got a nice "Christmas bonus," winning $680 from one of their Scratchers purchases.
If the group wins a large Powerball jackpot, Nettles says they plan to retire and buy new homes.
"We hope that one day we might be able to call in (to work) and say that we’re not coming back," Nettles said.
