Kansas City Woman Wins $30,000 Instantly

Story Photo A Kansas City (64149*) woman is looking forward to her retirement now more than ever after she won $30,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s "Quick $50" Scratchers game. Judy Smith, 63, said she plans to buy new carpet, some furniture and save the rest for her upcoming retirement. Smith, an accounting technician, purchased her winning ticket on Oct. 12 at Bannister Snack Shop, 1500 E. Bannister Road, in Kansas City. "I started scratching the ticket at the bottom of it," Smith said. "I scratched off part of it, and it said, ’Win all.’ I still didn’t know how much I won, so I started scratching off the prize amount. When I saw the comma, I could hardly get a breath." Smith said she’s planning to retire in 2006 and that she and her husband, Jason, will be able to get a few things done to the house that they wanted done prior to their retirement. "It won’t have to come from our retirement savings now," she said. "Quick $50," a $2 game, officially started on Oct. 8. *zip code to determine media coverage area
