Hallsville Man Wins $10,000 Birthday Surprise

Story Photo A Hallsville man got an early birthday present by winning $10,000 playing Powerball. Eddie Boyd, who turns 54 on Oct. 12, won the game’s third-level prize after his ticket matched four of the white-ball numbers and the Powerball number drawn on Oct. 8. Boyd said he found out he won $10,000 by checking the winning numbers on the Internet. Boyd purchased his winning ticket at Broadway Convenience Mart, 300 S. Brickton, in Columbia. He let the computer select his winning numbers. The third-level prize in Powerball recently was increased from $5,000 to $10,000 with a redesign of the game. The second-level prize also was increased from $100,000 to $200,000. The new game design took effect on Aug. 28.
