KINGSVILLE WOMAN GETS $25,000 MOTHER'S DAY GIFT

A Kingsville mother of five received an early Mother’s Day gift of $25,000 tax paid* when the SHOW ME 5 ticket her husband bought for her matched all five numbers drawn on Tuesday. Bonnie Tirk, 48, said her husband, Joe, told her he was going to buy between one and five SHOW ME 5 tickets each day this week in hopes of winning money for Mother’s Day. On Tuesday, his plan worked out when he bought a $5 SHOW ME 5 ticket at Holden Drug in Holden, which turned out to be a top-prize winner. Tirk, who works for the Internal Revenue Service, said she’d teased her family about wanting a swimming pool for Mother’s Day. Now, she will easily be able to afford the above-ground pool and deck. Joe Tirk let the computer select the numbers on the winning ticket. They were: 5, 9, 11, 23 and 27. * Twenty-eight percent federal and 4 percent state taxes are withheld from the total prize amount of $36,764.70 to provide $25,000 cash at the time of redemption. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may receive a refund.
