Arkansas Teacher Wins $13,100 Playing Four Lucky Numbers

Story Photo An Arkansas man who bought two advanced play Pick 4 tickets is glad they overlapped in terms of draw dates when his four lucky numbers were drawn on July 29. Peter Shirley, 56, of Forrest City, Ark., said he bought one multi-draw ticket in Steele, while he was visiting his parents in Blytheville, Ark. When he went to Thayer several days later, knowing his other Pick 4 ticket was close to running out, he bought another advanced-draw ticket with his same lucky numbers ? 1, 4, 8 and 6. He ended up winning $6,850 on the first ticket and $6,250 on the second ticket for total winnings of $13,100. "I was lucky not only that it hit, but that it hit before my first ticket ran out," said Shirley, who is a high school science teacher. Shirley said he and his wife, Judy, plan to use the prize money to buy a shed for their retirement home. They also decided to celebrate Shirley’s 56th birthday ? which was July 31 ? next weekend, after they redeem the prize. Shirley purchased his first winning Pick 4 ticket at Car-Mac’s Mart & Tobacco in Steele. He purchased the second winning ticket at Ray-Noble Liquor Store in Thayer. Pick 4 is a daily Numbers Game that offers players a chance to win up to $6,000 by picking four numbers between 0 and 9. Players can also allow the computer to generate four numbers randomly for them.
