0-0-0 Drawn Twice in Same Day
For the first time in Missouri Lottery history, not only triple digits, but the same triple digits ? 0-0-0 ? were drawn in both of the July 27 daily Pick 3 drawings, resulting in prize payouts much higher than sales.
"It is an unusual thing for triple digits to be drawn at all," said Gary Gonder, interim director of the Missouri Lottery. "But for the same triple digits to be drawn back to back, that is extremely rare."
Though the two drawings are completely independent of each other, the probability of those two same combinations being drawn consecutively is one in a million.
The July 27 midday drawing Pick 3 sales were $60,071, and the payout to winners was $102,240. Sales for the evening Pick 3 drawing were $98,935, and the prize payout was $213,810.
"Pick 3 players love to play triple numbers," said Scott White, on-line product manager for the Missouri Lottery. "The 0-0-0 combination is the 11th most popular combination played, and the most popular combination is 4-4-4."
White said an average daily payout for Pick 3 is approximately $106,000, and yesterday’s payout was $316,050.
Yesterday was the third and fourth time this year that triple digits have been drawn. On May 12, the combination 7-7-7 was drawn in the evening drawing, and on during the June 2 midday drawing, the combination 8-8-8 came up.
The combination 0-0-0 has been drawn six times in the Lottery’s history: Dec. 1, 1989; Jan. 16, 1989; Oct. 25, 1995; Sept. 24, 1996; and twice on July 27.
Pick 3 drawings are held each day at 12:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. For more information about Pick 3, visit the Lottery’s Web site at molottery.com.
