'Future Millionaires': Playing For The Big One

Congratulations to the "Future Millionaires" of Springdale, Ark.!   Their group was recognized as the Lottery Team of the Month for August as part of the Missouri Lottery’s 2005 Lottery Captains’ promotion.  The "Future Millionaires" is a group of six co-workers who work for Rockline Industries in Springdale, Ark., which is a private label wet wipe manufacturing plant.  For the past three years, they have pooled their money to buy tickets for each Powerball drawing.

The group members are:

Pattie Whisenhunt, Springdale, Ark. (captain)
John Seymour, Eureka Springs, Ark.
Dwayne Pearson, Springdale, Ark.
Fred Luallin, Springdale, Ark.
Bob Fullerton, Siloam Springs, Ark.
Joe Zoske, Springdale, Ark.

Pattie Whisenhunt, the Lottery captain for the group, is responsible for collecting money, buying tickets, making photocopies and reporting on winnings.

"At one time, we all worked in the same department, but then we all got separated.   Even so, we have kept playing the lottery together," said Whisenhunt.

Whisenhunt said she usually buys the group’s tickets from at least three different retail locations just across the Missouri state line.

"Every five weeks, each group member gives me $20 and I buy 10 plays for 10 drawings," said Whisenhunt.   "Each group member picks a set of numbers to play, and then I buy four Quick Pick plays.

"We let the winnings accumulate.   Once they add up to $120, everyone gets a free round to play," Whisenhunt said.

Each year on Jan. 1, anyone can join the "Future Millionaires" group to play Powerball; however, if a member decides to drop out at any time during the year, they cannot rejoin until the first of the next year.

When asked what keeps the "Future Millionaires" playing week after week, Whisenhunt said, "Our name!   You can’t win if you don’t play, and somebody’s got to win.  We’re just waiting for our numbers to hit.  We don’t want the little prizes; we’re waiting for the big one."

Whisenhunt said that when she wins, she dreams of finding a secluded island that no one can get to without her private jet.
