St. Joseph Man Uncovers $20,000 Prize

Story Photo A St. Joseph man is glad he stopped at a second store looking for non-alcoholic beer on June 24 after a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket he bought at the second stop turned out to be worth $20,000. Ryan Marshall, 29, said he was having some friends over that night, so he went to the store for refreshments. The first store he stopped at didn’t have non-alcoholic beer, so he went to Food 4 Less, 3734 Pear St. in St. Joseph. While there, he decided to buy $20 worth of Lottery Scratchers tickets. One ticket from the $2 "Firecracker Cash" game turned out to be worth the game’s top prize of $20,000. Marshall said he and his girlfriend scratched the tickets later at home. "We were in shock for quite awhile," said Marshall, who is a brick layer. Marshall said he plans to use the prize money to pay bills and put some in the bank to use for a down payment on a house. "I have a motorcycle, and I want to get some stuff for it, too," he added. The Missouri Lottery’s ?Firecracker Cash? game officially started May 14.
