$59.5 Million Powerball Jackpot Won In Connecticut
One lucky player in Connecticut matched all six numbers Saturday and walked away with the $59.5 million jackpot. The winner will now have to decide to either take the annuity option, or the one time cash "lump sum" amount of $34,662,300.66.
There were a total of 459,531 additional winners in Powerball on Saturday evening. Those winners won prizes totaling $3,122,353.
The numbers drawn were 7, 28, 31, 32, 40 and the Powerball was 14. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
One player from Rhode Island correctly matched all five white-ball numbers and won $100,000. Two additional players in Louisiana and Pennsylvania not only matched all five white-ball numbers, but also had the Power Play option for a total win of $200,000.
Thirty-five players matched four white-ball numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Four additional players not only matched 4+1, but also purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $10,000.
A total of 58,773 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 2 Saturday evening. Winners were able to do so by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night?s multiplier.
Players purchased more than $19.1 million in tickets between Wednesday and Saturday night.
The jackpot for Wednesday, June 29, will be $10 million.
The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.
Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
