Belton Man Finds $300,000 Scratchers Prize

Story Photo A service technician for a coffee company brewed up a huge instant prize on June 7 when one of the two Scratchers tickets he bought turned out to be worth $300,000. James Hildebrant, 58, said he bought his winning ticket at Belton Country Market, 1101 E. 171st St. in Belton, when he stopped to buy gasoline for his car. "We’ll pay off the house and be debt-free," said Hildebrant. "We’ll get rid of the credit cards. And we’ll enjoy life from here on in." Hildebrant, who works for Filter Fresh in Shawnee, Kan., said he and his wife, Elaine, may also take a vacation to Hawaii. "We’ll keep adding to the grandkids’ college funds, too," he said. "$300,000 Lucky Gold," a $10 game, officially went on sale Dec. 25, 2004.
