St. Peters Man Wins $50,006 Playing Crossword

Story Photo A quick trip to a local QuikTrip paid off for a St. Peters man when he bought two Missouri Lottery tickets and ended up winning $50,006. Kevin Powers, 25, said he doesn’t buy lottery tickets often, but for some reason, he decided to buy two "Crossword" tickets when he stopped at QuikTrip, 3000 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters, for cigarettes on May 15. One ticket turned out to be worth $6, and the other ticket turned out to be worth a top prize of $50,000. "I have some student loans (college) that I’ll pay off," he said. "I also plan to make some home improvements like new carpet, tile and stuff like that." Powers, who is a network technician for the Francis Howell School District in St. Charles, said he may also take a vacation with his windfall, most likely "to a beach." The Missouri Lottery’s $3 "Crossword" game officially started Nov. 20, 2004.
