Columbia Man Wins $5,000 In Powerball
Running a route for an absent driver paid off for a Columbia man after he decided to buy a Powerball ticket for the May 11 drawing and won $5,000. Johnnie Wells, an assistant manager for Brink?s in Columbia, was driving a truck in Jefferson City on May 11 when he bought his winning ticket at Break Time, 1907 E. McCarty in Jefferson City.
?I checked the ticket this morning and saw I matched all but one number,? Wells said when he claimed his prize on May 12. ?I couldn?t believe it.?
To win the third-level prize of $5,000, players must match four of the five white-ball numbers drawn and the Powerball number. Wells said he randomly selected the Powerball number, which was 6, and used Quick Pick to select his other winning numbers.
Wells, 53, said he plans use his prize money to make some minor car repairs and put the rest of it in savings.
