Joplin Man Plans Donation After Winning $30,000
A children’s home will benefit from a Joplin man’s win of $30,000. Chris Scheurich, 51, said he and his wife, Sharon, plan to make the donation to the home and put the remainder of his winnings in the bank for now.
Scheurich said he purchased three Scratchers tickets at Super Stop 3, 1318 E. 32nd St. in Joplin, on his way home from work on April 19. In addition to the $30,000 win, he also won $100 on another ticket.
"I left the tickets in the seat of the truck and didn’t think about scratching them off until yesterday morning," Scheurich said when he claimed his prize on April 21. "I knocked my coffee off onto the floor when I saw how much I won, and my wife didn’t even bother to chew me out for making a mess on her newly tiled floor. I didn’t mind mopping it up either."
Scheurich, a journeyman lineman for Empire District Electric Company in Joplin, said his father, who died last year, got him interested in helping at the children’s home. He said he and his wife are eager to make a financial donation to the home.
