Potosi Man Discovers Raffle Ticket Worth $10,000

A Potosi man didn’t find out until March 29 that his raffle ticket from the Missouri Lottery’s third "Pick 3 Bonus Bucks Raffle" promotion drawing on Feb. 22 was worth $10,000. David "D.W." Haines, 65, said he was out of town for awhile and just recently called the Lottery to find out the winning raffle numbers.
"I got the numbers, and when I saw I had one of them, I thought maybe I had written it down wrong," he said. "So I called back."
Haines said he plans to use his prize winnings to buy a newer pick-up truck.
"I’d like to get a newer, more economical truck," said Haines, who is a retired Air Force and commuter pilot who now works part-time at a pawn shop in Potosi.
He might also buy an expensive gun he has had his eye on at the pawn shop.
"It’s one you use for deer hunting," he explained.
Haines received his winning raffle ticket when he purchased a Pick 3 ticket at Country Mart in Potosi.
Raffle winners from the promotion have 180 days from the end of the promotion - which would be Aug. 28, 2005 - to claim their prizes at a Missouri Lottery office.
