Retired Kansas City Trucker Hauls In $50,000 Tax Paid

Story Photo A retired truck driver from Kansas City hauled in a pot of gold on St. Patrick’s Day when he won $50,000 tax paid* by playing the Missouri Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown game. James Vivian, 56, said he played some numbers that he previously Quick Picked. "I’ll use the money to pay bills, and I may travel to Arizona," he said. "I might buy a house, too." Vivian purchased his winning ticket at Millennium Super Stop, 3801 E. Truman Road in Kansas City. The winning numbers were: 3, 19, 24, 37 and 42. To date, 88 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
