Eureka Woman Wins $400,000

Story Photo A Eureka woman is $400,000 richer after she played Powerball using the Power Play feature and matched all five white-ball numbers drawn in the Jan. 8 drawing. Leona Hamilton, 62, said she and her husband, Brian, plan to use their winnings to "catch up." "We’ve had a couple of rough years, so it’s catch-up time," she said. Hamilton, who is self-employed in the packaging business, said she also plans to put some of the money back for retirement. Hamilton purchased her winning ticket at Wildwood Amoco, 2400 Highway 109 in Wildwood. She used Quick Pick to select her winning combination. It was: 9, 11, 22, 24 and 43. Since she spent an extra $1 to add the Power Play, she won four times the usual payout of $100,000 for total winnings of $400,000. "That’s (Power Play) all I ever play," she said. To date, 720 tickets worth the $100,000-level prize have been sold in Missouri since the Powerball game started in April 1992.
