Jefferson City Man Wins $3,000 Using Grandma's Phone Number
Using one of the earliest numbers he ever committed to memory paid off for a Jefferson City man, who played four digits from his grandma’s telephone number in Pick 4 on Dec. 30. Van Simmons, 61, said he played the numbers 3, 2, 7 and 3 in a combo play and when the numbers 2, 7, 3 and 3 were drawn, he won $3,000.
Simmons, a retired conductor for Union Pacific Railroad, said he plans to put his windfall in the bank.
"I might use it to go to the Arkansas Derby this spring in Hot Springs," he said.
Simmons purchased his winning ticket at Hy-Vee Food Stores, 3721 W. Truman Blvd. in Jefferson City.
Pick 4 is a daily Numbers Game that offers players a chance to win up to $6,000 by picking four numbers between 0 and 9. Players can also allow the computer to generate four numbers randomly for them.
