$30 Million Powerball Jackpot Won!

Story Photo Three lucky players in Arizona, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania matched all six numbers to win a share of the Wednesday night $30 million Powerball jackpot.  The players will now have to decide if they want to take their portion of the prize in 30 annual installments (annuity option), or receive a one-time "lump sum" payment of $16,988,668 (cash option) split three ways.

There were a total of 405,216 additional winners in the Powerball game Wednesday evening.  Those winners won prizes totaling $4,714,487.

The numbers drawn were 2, 7, 11, 24, 31 and the Powerball was 18. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Seven players correctly matched the five white-ball numbers to win the game’s second-level prize of $100,000. The ticket was sold in Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana (2), Missouri, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.  One additional player from Maine not only matched that prize level but also purchased the Power Play for a total win of $500,000.

Forty-seven players matched four white-ball numbers plus the Powerball to win $5,000.  Two additional players not only matched numbers to win this prize level but also purchased the Power Play option giving them a total win of  $25,000.

A total of 54,594 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 5. Winners were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night’s multiplier.

Players purchased more than $15.4 million in tickets between Saturday and Wednesday night.

The jackpot for Saturday, Dece. 25, is estimated at $10 million ($5.5 million cash).

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
