Being A Good Husband Brings Lamar Couple $30,000

Story Photo A Lamar couple who were low on milk ended up winning $30,000 cash in the Missouri Lottery’s "Red Hot Cash" Scratchers game. David "Dave" Sowersby, 68, said he and his wife were having chili for supper on Dec. 13, when they realized there was only enough milk to go with it for one of them. "I told her (wife) that I’ll run out and get a gallon of milk," he said. While at Summer Fresh Supermarket in Lamar, Sowersby had change from the $10 bill he used to buy the milk, and with that, he decided to buy $5 worth of Scratchers tickets. One ticket, which he scratched on the way home, turned out to be a $30,000 top-prize winner. Sowersby and his wife, Patsy, plan to use their prize money to "have a nice Christmas" and maybe buy a newer pre-owned car for Patsy. "Red Hot Cash," a $2 game, officially went on sale Sept. 18.
