Springfield Car Salesman Wins Top Prize In First Holiday Drawing

A Springfield car salesman’s name was drawn to win the top prize - a 2005 Ford Mustang GT® Coupe or the cash equivalent - in the Missouri Lottery’s first "Yule Tide Thrill Ride" holiday promotion drawing, held Dec. 1 in Jefferson City. Mark Silverberg, 54, said he will probably take the cash value of the prize - $27,500 - after taxes are withheld - instead of the car. The total prize package, before taxes, is $38,732.40.
"We’ll use it (prize money) to pay off debts," said Silverberg, who sells Lincoln, Mercury and Jeep products. "We’ve had four kids in college; three were at one time. Maybe we’ll take a little crazy trip somewhere, too."
Silverberg said he and his family will probably "do a little better" for Christmas this year. Silverberg and his wife, Joan, are the parents of four children.
Silverberg said he dropped off approximately 10 entries at the Springfield Missouri Lottery office. His winning entry consisted of two $5 non-winning tickets from the "Season’s Greetings" Scratchers game. One ticket was purchased at Briarwood One Stop, 5092 W. Highway 60 in Brookline, and the other ticket was purchased at Rapid Roberts, 320 W. Sunshine in Springfield.
The Lottery received 88,610 entries for the first drawing; 63 percent of the entrants entered through the Lottery’s Web site, and 37 percent of entrants mailed their entries or delivered them to a Missouri Lottery office.
In addition to the grand prize Mustang or cash equivalent in the first drawing, 55 cash prizes - five worth $2,500 and 50 worth $500 - were also awarded. A complete list of winners can be found at molottery.com.
There are two more drawings left in the promotion. In the second drawing on Dec. 22, one name will be drawn to win a 2005 Ford F-150® truck and $500 or the cash value of $33,000, along with the 55 cash prizes. That drawing entry deadline is Dec. 15.
The third drawing will take place on Jan. 19, 2005, and will feature a grand-prize 2005 Ford Explorer XLT® and $500 or the cash value of $33,000, and 55 other cash prizes. The entry deadline for the third drawing is Jan. 12, 2005.
Players can enter the drawing on-line, by postal mail or by dropping entries at regional offices. An entry consists of $10 worth of non-winning Scratchers tickets from five current holiday-theme games: "$300,000 Holiday Cash," "Season’s Greetings," "Holiday Bingo," "Ho Ho Holidays" and "Merry Money."
