Kirksville Woman Wins $1,000 Instantly

A Kirksville woman, who bought a holiday Scratchers ticket so she could enter it in a Missouri Lottery promotion, ended up winning $1,000. Nancy Smoot, 57, said she had $6 worth of non-winning holiday Scratchers tickets, so she bought a $5 ticket from the "Season’s Greetings" Scratchers game in order to have at least $10 worth to enter the Lottery’s Yule Tide Thrill Ride" holiday promotion. That ticket ended up being worth $1,000.
"Dick and I would love to win the Mustang," she said, referring to one of the prizes in the holiday promotion.
Smoot said they would probably use the prize money to "buy Christmas for the kids" and "maybe be more generous with charities, too." The Smoots are the parents of two grown children. They are both semi-retired and work at Wal-Mart in Kirksville.
Smoot purchased her winning ticket Nov. 18 at Ayerco, 2214 N. Baltimore in Kirksville.
"Season’s Greetings," a $5 game, officially went on sale Oct. 30.
