New Madrid Couple Wins $50,000 Tax Paid

Story Photo Winning $50,000 tax paid* playing SHOW ME 5 Paydown will enable a New Madrid couple to travel to Mississippi to see their new grandson. Jim and Debby Harris said their grandson was born on Nov. 4, and they would like to go see him, his big sister and their parents. "We might take a cruise," said Debby Harris, 50. "I’ve always wanted to do that." In addition to the trips, Debby Harris said she would like to buy a gun safe for Jim. "He’s been wanting one for a long, long time," she said. Jim Harris purchased the winning ticket for the Nov. 12 drawing at Express Fuel, 325 S. Highway 61 in New Madrid. He let the computer generate the winning numbers. They were: 14, 36, 37, 38 and 42. To date, 83 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
