Berger Teen Has Beginner's Luck

Story Photo An 18-year-old Berger girl had a stroke of beginner’s luck when she bought her first Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket and ended up winning $1,000. Amie Penserum said she turned 18 on Oct. 27, and four days later, on Halloween, she realized she was old enough to buy a Missouri Lottery ticket. When her family stopped at Fas-Trip in New Haven, she bought just one ticket from the "Sapphire Blue 7’s" game, and it turned out to be worth $1,000. When asked why she chose that game, Penserum responded, "I thought it was pretty." Penserum, who is a senior at Hermann High School, said she plans to put most of her prize money in the bank for college. She plans to attend the University of Missouri at Columbia or Southwest Missouri State University at Springfield and major in accounting. "I might use some to buy Christmas presents for my family, too," she said. "Sapphire Blue 7?s," a $2 game, officially went on sale July 3.
