St. Peters Man Turns $1 Into $50,000 Tax Paid

Story Photo A retired St. Peters man won’t have to visit his banker for a loan after he won $50,000 tax paid* on Oct. 29 playing the Missouri Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown game. Michael Narkawicz, 55, said he and his wife, Charmine, were in the process of buying a pre-owned PT Cruiser when he won the tax-paid prize. "Now we don’t have to worry about financing it," said Narkawicz, who is a retired asbestos worker. "I’ve had to pinch myself." Narkawicz bought the winning ticket at 7-Eleven, 7901 W. Mexico Road in St. Peters. He used Quick Pick to select the winning numbers. They were: 19, 24, 25, 33 and 36. To date, 82 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
