St. Joseph Man Wins $300,000 Prize

Story Photo A 30-year-old St. Joseph received a prize of a lifetime when his Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket turned out to be worth the top prize of $300,000. Richard "Rich" Helton said he bought just one of the $10 "$300,000 Mega Money" Scratchers tickets on Oct. 20, when he was at Kwik Pantry, 6054 King Hill Ave. in St. Joseph; it turned out to be worth $300,000. "I’m a generous person," he said. "I’ll share some with my family and friends. I also plan to put a good chunk on my house (mortgage)." Helton, a car wholesaler, said he also plans to put some money in the bank "for security." "$300,000 Mega Money," a $10 game, officially went on sale Aug. 21.
