Farmington Woman Wins $50,000 Tax Paid

Story Photo A Farmington woman is planning a vacation after becoming the first person to win $50,000 tax-paid in the Missouri Lottery’s midday SHOW ME 5 Paydown drawing on Aug. 18. Brenda Lunsford, 51, said she was working at the VFW in Farmington when she purchased her winning ticket. "I never played the midday draw before," she said. "When I scanned my ticket, I almost started crying." Lunsford said in addition to taking a vacation with her husband, Danny, they also plan to use some of the prize money to pay some bills and put some money in the bank. Lunsford let the computer select the winning combination on her ticket. The winning numbers were: 5, 11, 15, 19 and 21. To date, 79 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
