Powerball Player's Numbers Win $50,000

Story Photo

Richard Payne likes to choose his own numbers when he plays Powerball. One of his sets of numbers, consisting of birthdates and ages of loves ones, recently netted the St. Louis man a $50,000 prize.

Payne won the $50,000 prize by matching four white-ball numbers plus the Powerball for the June 1 drawing. He checked his tickets the next evening using the Missouri Lottery Official Mobile App.

“I was at home,” Payne explained. “I have the app on my phone, and I looked it up. I had just gotten in, and I was kind of hyperventilating for a moment.”

He said a portion of the prize money will go toward paying off his and his wife’s vehicles.

The winning numbers for the June 1 Powerball drawing were 6, 15, 34, 45, 52, and the Powerball was 8. Payne purchased his ticket at QuikTrip, 7400 N. Lindbergh Blvd., in Hazelwood.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Payne’s win marks the 28th time a Missouri Lottery player has won a $50,000 Powerball prize in 2019 by watching four white-ball numbers and the Powerball.
