A Lee’s Summit man and his wife have made a tradition of picking up Scratchers tickets throughout the weekend, then scratching them together on Monday evenings. During one recent night of Scratchers fun, Travis Groepel and his wife revealed a $100,000 prize on the Missouri Lottery Scratchers game “50X The Cash.”

Groepel said he had taken some winnings from previously scratched tickets to purchase more for their weekly entertainment, deciding to play “50X The Cash.”

“I’d won like $40 on a couple of $5 Scratchers, so I bought four $10 tickets with it,” Groepel explained. “I think that was the first time I bought that ticket. I think I just saw them and thought that I hadn’t played them before.”

When it came to scratching the winning ticket, the honors actually belong to his wife.

“She kept jumping up and down saying, ‘Oh my gosh!’” Groepel recalled. “We were all pretty excited.”

Groepel purchased the winning ticket from Fuel Expresso, 616 SW Jefferson Street, in Lee’s Summit.

“50X The Cash” is a $10 ticket that started Dec. 27, 2016, with prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million. A top prize of $1 million remains unclaimed, as well as two more prizes of $100,000.

Players in Jackson County won more than $76 million in Missouri Lottery prizes in the last fiscal year, with $7.2 million going to retailers in the form of bonuses and commissions, and an additional $23.2 million going to education programs in the county.
