Russellville Man Wins $1,000 On 40th Birthday

Story Photo A Russellville man got a couple of fun surprises on his 40th birthday yesterday. Roger Schnieders said first, he was treated to a surprise party. Then, his sister-in-law, Mary Jo Stephenson of Sedalia, gave him a birthday card with two $1 Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets; he scratched them at the party and one of them turned out to be worth $1,000. "She (Mary Jo) always buys two $1 tickets and puts them in birthday cards," he said. "I was teasing everyone about them giving me cheap gag gifts, and Mary Jo giving me $1,000 for my birthday." Schnieders, who is a storekeeper for the state’s Surplus Properties, said he plans to put the birthday prize money in savings until he decides what he will do with it. According to Missouri Lottery records, Stephenson purchased the winning ticket at Bings Thriftway in Sedalia. "Lots of Luck," a $1 Scratchers game, officially began May 15.
