911 Dispatcher From Perryville Wins $50,000 With Beginner's Luck

Story Photo A 911 dispatcher summoned up a $50,000 tax-paid* prize on the very first SHOW ME 5 Paydown ticket she ever bought. Kathy Johnson, 45, of Perryville said she was visiting her brother in Portageville, when they stopped in 4 Way Quick Shop in Portageville. Her brother, who buys SHOW ME 5 Paydown tickets every day, suggested that Johnson buy one, too. She took his advice ? bought one ticket ? and ended up winning $50,000 tax paid. "I’ve never won anything in my life," she said when she claimed her prize on June 22. Johnson said she plans to use her prize money to pay off bills. To date, 77 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on its value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
