St. Louis Man Spends $1, Wins $10,000

A St. Louis (63134*) man won $10,000 on tax filing deadline day, April 15, by playing the Missouri Lottery. Edward "Ed" Marquette, 41, said he stopped in QuikTrip, 1617 Gravois in St. Louis, for gas and cigarettes. He bought one $1 "Payday" ticket, scratched off the latex in his car and found out the ticket was worth $10,000. Marquette, who works for a delivery service, plans to use the prize money to fix his delivery truck and pay bills. He and his wife, Bonnie, also spoiled their dog "Mocha" after winning, by buying her a "huge bag of rawhide bones, Milk-Bones and toys." "Payday," a $1 Scratchers game, officially began Feb. 28. * Winner’s zip code to help media determine coverage area
