A Scratchers ticket here and there is a typical purchase for Nicholas Baumann. It had been awhile since he’d bought one, but he decided to buy a few “Gold Rush” Scratchers at White Oak Station, 1115 W. Fort Scott St., in Butler. Out of his five tickets, he won $10 and a top prize of $50,000.

“I scratched them off in my truck, and then I turned around and ran back inside,” explained the Butler resident. “I was like, ‘Tell me I’m not dreaming and this is right.’ And she kind of looked at me weird and scanned it. Then she got excited, too!”

Baumann said he had never had so many hugs from strangers than when he learned he won $50,000 in the store that day.

He plans to use his prize money to get out of debt and buy a sawmill.

“It’s something I have wanted to do for a while and I have been kicking the idea around,” shared Baumann. “Now I have the money to just do it! It’s just for me.”

Gold Rush” is a $3 ticket that began on June 25. It offers more than $3.9 million in remaining prizes, including two more top prizes of $50,000.
