Queen City Area Friends Win $100,000 In Powerball

Story Photo Seven friends from the Queen City area are sharing more good times after a combination on their Powerball ticket matched all five white-ball numbers in the March 10 drawing to win $100,000. The winners are: Mark Starbuck, 51, David Crabtree, 34, Dennis Crabtree, 41, James March, 24, John March, 35, all of Queen City; and Evan Johnson, 56, and Tracy Koger, both of Kirksville. Though it was seven people that pooled their money for tickets, the prize will be split nine ways, since two people contributed $10 and the other five members contributed $5. John March and Evan Johnson will each receive two "shares" of the prize, or approximately $22,222 before taxes. The other five members will receive approximately $11,111 before taxes. Dennis Crabtree, a custodian for the Schuyler R-1 School District, purchased the group’s winning ticket at Amoco Food Shop in Lancaster. He said the group has played the Lottery together on and off for the past two years, mainly when the jackpot gets above $50 million. The winning numbers, which the group let the computer pick, were: 10, 20, 22, 41 and 49. To date, 685 tickets worth $100,000 have been sold in Missouri since the Powerball game started in April 1992.
