Gladstone Man's Numbers Pay Off $100,000

On July 18, Daniel Lehman purchased several Powerball tickets, all including the Powerball number 12 as well as the Power Play option. Though he had been playing the same numbers for 10 years, he decided to do something different when choosing the Powerball number.

“I noticed on the website the Lucky Ball was 12 on Monday, and the Mega Ball was 12 on Tuesday,” said the Gladstone resident, recalling how he picked the number leading to a $100,000 win. “And I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if the Powerball was 12 on Wednesday?’”

That night, he called the Missouri Lottery winner hotline and, as the winning numbers were read off, he realized this could be big. He then verified the numbers on MOLottery.com.

Lehman matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number. That would have ordinarily been a $50,000 win, but because he added Power Play to his ticket, his $50,000 win was doubled to $100,000 when the Power Play number drawn was 2. The winning numbers on July 18 were: 1, 10, 27, 28, 36, and the Powerball number was 12.

“I was only three numbers off. I had 25 and it was 28, but I am so happy!” said Lehman. “I told my wife we can pay off the house. She said, ‘Really?’ She believed me, I was very serious.”

He purchased the winning Powerball ticket at Gas ‘n Stuff (Rock Stop), 6401 N. Oak Trafficway, in Gladstone.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.
