Palmyra Retiree Turns $4 Into $2,400

Story Photo A Palmyra retiree turned $4 into $2,400 by buying two Missouri Lottery "Lucky Gold" Scratchers tickets. Phyllis Whiston, 74, said she and her husband, Philip, stopped in Ice House, 1409 S. Main in Palmyra, on March 8 to get gas. While there, she bought two $2 tickets; the first one turned out to be worth $2 and the second one was worth $2,400. "I was numb for a whole day," said Whiston. Whiston said she plans to use her prize money to buy a pair of new shoes for her grandson’s upcoming wedding, and she will use some of the prize money to pay for medicine. The rest of her money will go in the bank. Whiston is the second Palmyra resident to win a large prize on a "Lucky Gold" Scratchers ticket recently. On March 3, Josh Jaggers, 21, won $24,000 on a "Lucky Gold" ticket he purchased at Pick-A-Dilly Quik Stop in Palmyra. "Lucky Gold," a $2 Scratchers game, officially began Feb. 28.
