Butler County Deputy Finds $10,000

A deputy for the Butler County Sheriffs’ Department saw March come in like a lion by winning $10,000 in the Missouri Lottery’s "$100,000 Vegas Money" Scratchers game. Charles Phelps, 33, said he won $107 on a Scratchers ticket early on March 1. So when he got off work later that day, he stopped at Rankin Heartland X’Press, 4155 S. Westwood Blvd. in Poplar Bluff to cash his prize. While there, he used $25 to buy five $5 "$100,000 Vegas Money" tickets, and to his surprise, one of them was worth $10,000.
"It was unbelievable," he said, recalling when he scratched off the prize.
Phelps said he plans to use his prize money to pay off some bills and help pay for an upcoming trip to Tunica, Miss.
"$100,000 Vegas Money," a $5 Scratchers game, officially began Aug. 23, 2003.
