Lauber's Citgo Clerk Wins $100,000 Instantly

A clerk for a Potosi convenience store uncovered a $100,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket exactly two weeks after her 50th birthday. Pat Brown, Cadet, said she had just gotten off her job at Lauber’s Potosi Citgo on Feb. 17, when she decided to buy two $5 tickets from the "$100,000 Vegas Money" Scratchers game. She took the tickets to the restaurant part of the store that sells Chester Chicken to have some coffee and play her tickets. The first one turned out to be worth the game’s top prize of $100,000. The second one was a $5 winner.
"I couldn’t talk," she said, explaining how she discovered her win and took the ticket to the order counter to have the clerks look at it. "The one girl said to the other girl, ’What’s wrong with her? She’s as white as a sheet.’"
Brown said the employees of the restaurant side of the store helped her lay down on the floor until she regained her composure.
"I’m taking care of my family," she said. Brown said she is using the money to help her mom, dad, grown children, grandchildren, brother and his family. "I bought myself a truck," she said. "It’s not a new one, but it’s new to me. The rest I’ll put back for retirement."
In addition to taking care of her family, Brown also shared her windfall with the other employees at the retail location.
"I gave everyone I work with a $100 bill," she said. According to Brown, she shared her good fortune with approximately 15 co-workers.
"$100,000 Vegas Money," a $5 Scratchers game, officially began Aug. 23.
